LEESBURG, Va. (AP) — Incumbent Buta Biberaj, one of three prosecutors in northern Virginia who faced tough challenges after being elected four years ago on a reform agenda, has won her Democratic primary over challenger Elizabeth Lancaster. Biberaj, the commonwealth’s attorney in Loudoun County, raised significantly more money, but Lancaster had earned the endorsement of The Washington Post. Biberaj faced criticism, including some within her own party, over her day-to-day management of the office and as Loudoun found itself in the national spotlight over issues like school safety and her handling of two sex assaults at two different high schools in 2021. KELLOGG, Idaho (AP) — A northern Idaho man has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder and burglary after prosecutors said he went to a neighbor’s home and shot and killed the family there, including two teens.Majorjon Kaylor, 31, of Kellogg, was arrested Sunday night shortly after the shooting in the small mining community.Killed were Kenneth Guardipee, 65; his daughter Kenna Guardipee, 41; and her sons 18-year-old Kenneth Guardipee and 16-year-old Aiken Smith. The family lived in the same multi-home building as Kaylor. If convicted, Kaylor could face the death penalty. (WSYR-TV) -- An Albany teenager has been arrested after allegedly stealing $18,000 worth of merchandise from an Ulta Beauty in New Hartford in March.The teen, 19-year-old Desiree Fowler, of Albany, was arrested on Tuesday, June 20, as one of the three suspects who allegedly stole $18,000 worth of fragrances from the Ulta Beauty located at 4733 Commercial Drive. Orange County officials concerned over 'obscene' children's books

Huntington Beach city council officials are raising concerns over children’s library books that they believe are obscene and should not be accessible to young people. Gracey Van Der Mark, Huntington Beach Mayor Pro Tem, says there are several books in circulation at the library that are too sexually explicit for children and teenagers.  “We’re just trying to start a dialogue with our city staff, our librarians, our city attorney to what it is we can do to protect our children without violating anyone’s freedom of speech,” Van Der Mark said. She believes there should be new rules put in place to restrict children’s and teen’s access to inappropriate books. “So for example, if there's a book that has sexually explicit content, should we put a label on it so the parents know what is in there? A Fresno man was sentenced to prison Tuesday for child sex trafficking of a teenager in Ventura County.Javontay Bess, 27, was sentenced to 15 years and four months in prison on charges of felony human trafficking of a minor with a special allegation of being paroled at the time of the offense.Bess was involved in the trafficking of a 16-year-old girl from Riverside, who was discovered and rescued in 2019, according to the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.In May 2019, a citizen contacted Ventura County authorities to report "suspicious circumstances and possible sex trafficking at a Camarillo motel,” according to court documents.Detectives discovered Bess used online advertising to arrange commercial sex acts with the teenager at Ventura County motels.At the time, “investigators quickly narrowed down the juvenile’s location to the Newbury Park area,” authorities said.But the teen left Ventura County before authorities could track her down.
