Parents of Oxford school shooter can face trial, court says

DETROIT (AP) — The parents of a teenager who killed four students at a Michigan high school can face trial for involuntary manslaughter, the state appeals court said Thursday in a groundbreaking case of criminal responsibility for the acts of a child. The murders would not have happened if the parents hadn’t purchased a gun for Ethan Crumbley or if they had taken him home from Oxford High School on the day of the shooting, when staff became alarmed about his extreme drawings, the appeals court said.The court noted that the legal threshold at this stage of the case is fairly low under Michigan law. “Whether a jury actually finds that causation has been proven after a full trial, where the record will almost surely be more expansive — including evidence produced by defendants — is an issue separate from what we decide today,” the court said in a 3-0 opinion.James and Jennifer Crumbley are accused of failing to secure a gun and ignoring the mental health needs of thei...

Denver Public School Board calls urgent session over school safety

DENVER (KDVR) — Following a shooting at East High School in Denver the Denver Public School Board will be holding an urgent session Thursday.The urgent session will begin at 10 a.m. and comes on the heels of a shooting that injured two faculty members. The two deans were shot while searching a student who attended the school.There are lots of questions coming from parents, students and the community about the future of school safety. East High shooting victim returns home School Resource Officers were a big topic after Wednesday. In 2020, DPS voted to remove all SROs from campuses. DPS Superintendent Alex Marrero is now calling for at least one armed police officer to be posted on all high school campuses. UK Parliament bans TikTok from its network

LONDON — U.K. lawmakers will be blocked from using TikTok on any parliamentary networks and devices.It follows the social media app being banned on all U.K. government devices last week and came just as TikTok’s boss, Shou Zi Chew, began a crunch Congressional hearing in the U.S.An email sent to MPs at 2pm today said: “Cyber security is a top priority for us all and we believe that this is a necessary step to ensure our parliamentary digital devices remain as secure as possible.”The ban means no one will be able to access the app on a parliamentary iPad or iPhone or while using parliamentary Wi-Fi. Startup’s 3D-printed rocket delivers stunning night launch but fails to reach orbit

(CNN) — Startup Relativity Space sent what it’s calling the “world’s first 3D-printed rocket” toward space on Wednesday, vaulting it into the upper reaches of the atmosphere. Though, it suffered an engine issue after launch and failed to reach orbit.Terran 1, a 110-foot-tall (33.5-meter) vehicle designed to haul lightweight satellites into orbital space, lifted off from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on Florida’s eastern coast at just before 11:30 pm ET. The rocket, powered by super-chilled methane and oxygen, burned a bright blue-green against the night sky.After the first stage of the rocket — the bottommost portion of the rocket that gives the initial thrust at liftoff — expended its fuel, it detached from the rocket’s upper stage. The New Hampshire House tabled a bill Wednesday after it narrowly failed to pass. (AP) — A former Massachusetts police detective has been convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death nearly five years ago of his wife, which was originally ruled a suicide.Former Westfield Detective Brian Fanion was sentenced Wednesday in Hampden Superior Court to a mandatory term of life in prison after being found guilty by a jury of killing Amy Fanion, 51, in May 2018.The prosecutor said Brian Fanion was having an affair and did not want to share his pension with his wife.
